Sermorelin vs Somatropin (recombinant human growth hormone)

Somatropin replaces GH directly in licensed indications; sermorelin stimulates endogenous release and has historical GHRH evidence. Neither comparison.

At a glance
Sermorelin
Somatropin (recombinant human growth hormone)
Human evidence
Native GHRH(1-29)/sermorelin has genuine human endocrine and diagnostic evidence. In a tiny 6-week study of older men, nightly GHRH increased nocturnal GH but did not significantly improve IGF-I or DEXA body composition.
Somatropin has extensive approved replacement evidence in diagnosed growth-hormone deficiency. In healthy older adults, systematic review evidence found modest body-composition changes with increased adverse effects and no basis for a broad anti-ageing claim.

Regulatory status
Historical FDA marketing approval existed for Geref (sermorelin acetate); this does not confer approval on generic research-market sermorelin.
Multiple licensed somatropin products exist. An unverified product labelled as HGH or somatropin is not automatically an approved or quality-assured medicine.
Route / formulation
Current authorization and product quality must be checked by jurisdiction/product.
Quality, sterility, dose accuracy and authenticity of research-market HGH must be independently verified.
Different mechanisms and approved contexts Somatropin replaces GH directly in licensed indications; sermorelin stimulates endogenous release and has historical GHRH evidence. Neither comparison supports healthy-person anti-ageing claims.
